Visual Psychophysics - From Theory to Experiment
Dieser Blockkurs erfolgt auf Englisch.
The course
In the second half of Summer Semester 2020, we (Prof. Stefan Treue, Dr. Clio Quigley & Benedict Wild) are offering a course entitled "Visual Psychophysics - From Theory to Experiment". This introductory course is a mixture of lecture, seminar, and practical exercises and will emphasise the importance of psychophysics as a central method in human perceptual and sensorimotor research. Beyond gaining an understanding of the underlying theoretical principles, students should also be able to design and conduct their own psychophysical experiments and critically assess published studies by the end of the course.
The course will be taught in English and is offered as an online course in 2020.
This course is offered in the university course catalogue (M.Bio.373) and as a GGNB methods course (A18).
Please see the Dates page for information about the schedule.
Who should attend.
The course is aimed at highly motivated Master and Bachelor students of psychology, biology, and physics who have a particular interest in research, as well as PhD students in the GGNB programs. Prerequisites are completion of the lecture Biologische Psychologie II/Kognitive Neurowissenschaften or an equivalent university course. In addition, it is mandatory to take part in the preceding course "MATLAB in Biopsychology and Neuroscience" (Prof. Alexander Gail) if you do not already have sufficient MATLAB experience.
The course is limited to a small group of students to allow intensive supervision. Successful completion of "Visual Psychophysics - From Theory to Experiment" is required for admission to a Bachelor or Master thesis or HiWi employment in the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory and associated Sensorimotor and Decision and Awareness groups.
Pre-registration
Pre-registration for this course was open until Friday, April 17th, 2020 and was accessible through the StudIP entry for the course.
Note: Registration via the Course homepage does not replace FlexNow registration for those of you who are admitted to the course and want to participate in the exam to receive credit for the course.
