Welcome to the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory (CNL) at the German Primate Center (DPZ).
Head of the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory is Prof. Dr. Stefan Treue. He also is the Director of the DPZ and University Professor for Cognitive Neurosciences and Biopsychology at the Faculty of Biology and Psychology, Georg-Elias-Müller-Institute for Psychology at the University of Göttingen.
The CNL also hosts five research groups:
- The Sensorimotor Group (SMG), headed by Prof. Dr. Alexander Gail aims to understand the neural basis of sensorimotor transformations, i.e. the cortical mechanisms underlying the planning of voluntary movements. More info
- The Decision and Awareness Group (DAG), headed by Dr. Igor Kagan is focused on the neural mechanisms of active perception, decision making and goal-directed actions. More info
- The Junior Research Group Perception and Plasticity (PPG), headed by Dr. Caspar Schwiedrzik (guest scientist from the European Neuroscience Institute in Göttingen) studies the neuronal basis of perceptual learning and plasticity in the visual system. More info
- The Cognitive Neurology Group (CNG), headed by Prof. Dr Melanie Wilke focuses on the neuronal basis of visual perception and consciousness, as well as comparative studies of humans and non-human primates. More info
- The Early Career Research Group (ECG) headed by Dr. Neda Shahidi (guest scientist from the University of Göttingen) studies cortical basis of decision making, with a focus on ecologically-relevant behavior. More info
The CNL and the five groups are members of numerous scientific networks and work together closely with several international groups.
Short movie about the research focuses and methods of the CNL
Seeing is an active process; it is more than just a reflection of our environment. Visual information is strongly modified on its way from the eyes through the cortex by a multitude of visual processes. This way, we can distinguish important from unimportant information. The Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory investigates these phenomena in the brain.
Picture of the Month
Last autumn the annual retreat of the Cognitive Neuroscience Lab took place in Volpriehausen. The scientists presented their projects in talks and discussed the department's current research for four days. The retreat was rounded off with an afternoon of team building together with the technical and administrative staff.
